Where to Put Your Dog's Indoor Potty Station (Placement Matters More Than You Think)

You picked a great potty system. Now, where does it go? Placement sounds trivial, but it's one of the most common reasons indoor training stalls. Dogs are particular about where they'll go, and a bad location can quietly sabotage everything.

The rules of good placement

• Low traffic, not no traffic. Dogs want a bit of privacy, but a spot that's too isolated gets forgotten, by them and by you.
• Away from food and water. Dogs instinctively refuse to potty near where they eat. Keep at least several feet between the station and their bowls.
• Consistent and permanent. Pick once, and don't move it during training. Every relocation resets the habit clock.
• Easy-clean flooring underneath if possible. Tile, vinyl, or laminate make life easier, though a proper containment mat protects any surface.
• Reachable in seconds. Especially for puppies and seniors, the station should be on the floor level where your dog spends most of their day.

Spots to avoid

Skip the laundry room behind a door that's sometimes closed, the balcony that's freezing half the year, and the bathroom mat zone, dogs confuse soft bath mats with pads. And avoid dark corners your dog has never voluntarily visited.

Apartment placement
