Setting Up Your FloorMate: A First-Week Checklist
New FloorMate on the way? Here's the day-by-day first-week plan that gets your dog using it confidently from the start.
By Nadine Oliveri

Your FloorMate just arrived. Here's how to go from unboxing to a confident, accident-free routine in one week.
Day 1: set up and introduce
Choose a consistent, low-traffic spot away from food and water, placement matters. Set the FloorMate down, its weighted, anti-slip base keeps it planted, and lay a fresh Pee Pad inside the raised wall. Then let your dog investigate freely. Sniffing is learning. No pressure, no commands yet.

Days 1-2: build the association
- Bring your dog to the station after every nap, meal, and play session
- Use one consistent cue, like "go potty"
- Reward within two seconds of a success, treat and praise
- If they miss, clean quietly with enzyme cleaner and shorten the time between visits
Scent transfer trick: if your dog has used pads before, place a lightly used pad on the FloorMate for the first day. The familiar smell says "this is the spot."
Days 3-5: consistency does the work
Keep the schedule boring and predictable. Predictable meals in, predictable potty times out. Most dogs are voluntarily walking to the station by mid-week. Change pads after one or two uses, dogs avoid a saturated pad, and a fresh one keeps the habit strong.

Days 6-7: trust, but verify
Loosen supervision gradually. Keep rewarding successes, at this stage praise matters as much as treats. If you see edge misses, don't panic: the FloorMate's 1¼-inch wall and collection well are doing their job. That's the design working, not training failing.
The maintenance rhythm
Swap pads regularly, and rinse the silicone mat with warm soapy water as needed, food-grade silicone wipes clean and doesn't hold odors like plastic trays do.
That's it. One week, one routine, zero floor damage. For the extended version with troubleshooting, see the full training guide.
